Announcement - 24th Gaseous Electronics Meeting: A Celebration of Plasma Physics
We are pleased to announce that the 23th Gaseous Electronics Meeting (GEM) will be held at the Mawson Lakes campus of the University of South Australia from February 28 - March 1, 2024. This GEM will follow previous GEM conferences in discussing the basic physics of electron collisional processes in gases, including laser interactions, electrical breakdown, transport theory and modelling. Also applications will be discussed ranging through significant applications of electric arcs and glows, including arc welding, plasmas for the propagation of rockets, lightning, lightning, surface coatings, fusion plasmas, electrical breakdown and, more recently, plasmas with medical applications.
GEM is noted for bringing together research workers from widely different fields of Gaseous Electronics, and also for attracting quite a number of overseas scientists. We are pleased that the following leaders of different groups in Australia have already expressed eagerness to attend: Marcela Bilek, University of Sydney, Rod Boswell ANU Canberra, Tony Murphy CSIRO Sydney, Matthew Hole, ANU Canberra and Robert Carman, Macquarie University, Sydney.
General Information about GEM
The first GEM was held in Sydney in 1980 to provide a forum for basic processes in gaseous electronics including, plasma, collisional processes, laser interactions, theory, and modelling. Every subsequent two years about 60 researchers and students have participated at various venues around Australia, every meeting leaving an indelible mark of friendship and collegiate conviviality on all participants.

Visit: Tour to Barossa Valley
The tour will be led by John Lowke, who initiated the first GEM in 1980, and was also born in the Barossa. The final conference lunch will be held on the Friday at the Lambert winery, situated in an idyllic spot overlooking the valley on Long Gully Road, near Angaston.
